Mike, You are one of the
Mike,
You are one of the most genuine people I have ever had the opportunity to meet. Your selflessness, compassion, and enthusiasm for the UW band is something unbelievable.
You have truly effected me in a way that I will remember forever. I know you do not take credit for others' successes, but I owe tremendous thanks to you, for everything. You truly are one of the best.
It has been such a pleasure working with you, Mike. I hope to someday influence others like you have done to the countless many who have had the privilege to work with you.
CONGRATULATIONS MIKE
Mike, I just wanted to give you a big "pat on the back" for this Lifetime Award and also for being a great inspiration to me while I was at Butler University and Jordan College of Music. Your great spirit and devotion to music students has followed me my entire life, and I know that in this way you have contributed to some part of the musical success I have had. We haven't been in touch for all of these years but trust me, your name - like George Vaught, has been mentioned fondly many, many times in our household. Thanks for the memories and great music!

Butler's loss was Wisconsin's gain!
Hi Mike,
You left the Butler Band the year I graduated, after having spent 4 wonderful years in the drum section....not bad for a non-music major, I guess. When Dr Henzie left right as I arrived at Fairview, I wondered what wuz up?? But man you could bring out such amazing things in our band. I've watched thru the years as Wisconsin's band has been on TV, and enjoyed seeing you 'still swinging that batton', like my dad, Walt Bowers, had done at Mishwaka High School for so many years. Best wishes from this Desert Rat in Tucson!

Dr. Leckrone:
Had you made your career at Butler Univ rather than Wisconsin, you may well have achieved a "Lifetime Award" there. I wasn't in the Butler Bands that you directed, but appreciated your talents & leadership very much.
"Football fields are for band practice!"
Thanks for the Memories
Mike,
You have had a positive impact on literally thousands of lives that you will never fully know! My college choices and career choice were strongly influenced by what you taught me and just by your example. Thanks!! Not only do you embody Wisconsin spirit and the Wisconsin Idea, you embody "teacher".
I remember one of those quotes you used to put in the charts that I used to think was funny. The first quote was: "Talent does what it can, genius does what it must." It was followed by the Leckrone quote: "You guys do what you can, I'll do what I must!"...You were right!
Thans for the memories...and so much more!
Thanks Mike - for everything...
Mike,
When I received the invitation in the mail I said to myself it's about time. No one deserves this more than you and "when you say WISCONSIN, you say LECKRONE". You epitomize the Wisconsin spirit and I'm very lucky to have been able to participate in your legacy. Words cannot describe how much influence you had in my life during and after college.
I remember the hot summer workouts, dust bowls, count downs and drum major tryouts. I never knew that I could reach that next level. Especially when the body says no but the mind said yes. Thanks. I have been very fortunate to have been a part of the UW Marching Band. My best friends and memories are because of you.
Thank you for all the great times and giving me the opportunity be lead the band. Congratulations again and ON WISCONSIN.
Mike Leckrone
So many people are PROUD of you.. I can't think of another person that deserves this honor!!!!!!

I am so proud of you dad! I always thought you deserved some kind of an award!!!! You are a wonderful dad and have been such listener, supporter..advice giver!!! I always think of what you say whenever I come to you with a problem and you give me some advice on it.....You tell me " Follow what I say...I am always right" --and the truth is....You always are!!!! ( and sometimes I don't like to admit it!)
I love you dad. Again, congratulations!
Missy
THANKS
Mike,
I've used your phrase, "You can take anything as long as you know when it is going to end." with great success in my business career. Some of my fondest memories are of my time in the UW-Marching Band.
Thanks for memories,
Phil
